Howdy!!
I hope you all had a great time at our 2nd meeting/Mentor-Mentee Match Night!! It's always a joy seeing all the smiling faces walk into the room! I hope you got to know your mentor, gained some knowledge, and had fun during the game! A mentor-mentee relationship in any aspect of life is extremely valuable as it provides opportunities for growth, professional development, and friendship! Throughout life, I hope you meet lots of people who can offer mentorship. Also, I hope one day you yourself can mentor people! I received my MAPS mentor, Sara Yasrebi (now M2, pictured below: 3rd down on the left) last year. She has helped me tremendously in so many ways. From MCAT study tips to physician shadowing recommendations, her advice has brought so many opportunities to my attention. Please keep in touch with your mentor, because this is an insanely rare opportunity to be able to receive advice about medical school/nursing school directly from the respective students! Warm wishes, Helen Huang

HOWDY!!
Thank you all for attending our first general meeting of the semester! In case you missed it: 1) A Kaplan student ambassador gave a talk about available courses for graduate school entrance exam prep. Kaplan offers prep courses for the MCAT, GRE, DAT, PCAT, and more! Common misconception: "I don't need to start studying until a few months before my exam." IT IS NEVER TOO EARLY TO START STUDYING!! 2) Our advisor, Dr. Kraft, gave an enlightening and informative lecture about metacognitive strategies for enhancing the way we learn. Ask yourself if you are studying the material or actually learning/understanding it. 3) The officers introduced themselves and talked about the active membership requirements. 4) We ended with a fun game of bingo! Each bingo card had 2 fun facts about each officer. The first to get a bingo won a few points (We know you guys love points)! Please let us know if you have any questions! Thanks and gig 'em, Helen Howdy MAPS!!
Thank you all for coming out to concessions!! Our stand (Northeast Tower) is one of the biggest ones in all of Kyle Field, so we appreciate you guys for coming out! Concessions are great opportunities to earn a substantial amount of points (@ members trying to go to AMEC). We will also be volunteering at basketball and volleyball games when the season begins. Don't forget that to obtain active membership status you must volunteer for at least one football concessions event! Thanks and gig 'em, Helen Howdy All!
Gaming socials are all about exposing your competitive side while also getting to know each other. Let's just say no mercy was shown! Thank you guys for coming out, lots of laughter was shared. See you all at the next event! Thanks and gig 'em, Helen Howdy!!
Did you know that the Texas A&M College of Medicine is one of the most affordable medical schools in the nation with in-state tuition and fees at $19,308 and out-of-state at $32,408?! I hope you all enjoyed the tour! When I toured it for the first time, it sparked my excitement for whenever I get accepted to medical school, and I hope it did the same for you! No if, only when! For more information, visit https://medicine.tamhsc.edu/ Until next time, Helen Howdy MAPS!
Did you catch us at the 12th Man Hall in the MSC? One of the ways we raise money is by holding bake sales! We encourage members to sign up to bake some goods or to work a 30 minute shift (you get points for doing either!) We got some great action and hope you all join us next time! Helen |
